Restorative Practices continue at Galion City Schools. Today we share how affective statements help students express their feelings and impact on others in a constructive way. These statements focus on emotions rather than blame, fostering understanding and empathy. Here are a few examples affective statements: “I feel hurt when you don’t include me in games because it makes me feel left out.” “It makes me feel sad when I hear people saying bad things about my friend. Will you try to think of some nice things?” “ It makes me feel good when I see you making good decisions at lunch” Our students are hearing these types of statements from teachers and staff and are starting to use them independently when collaborating and communicating with each other.

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on the value of being Involved—the third quality of our Portrait of a Tiger. Involved Tigers display a passion for the success of our community by engaging service to our community, lending a hand, and making a difference! They also seek ways to participate in school related activities to help build Tiger pride! ❤️ As the snow is falling, and the holidays are approaching, there will be many opportunities to be involved in our community and in our schools not only in December, but in the months to come. We invite all our Tiger families and friends to be involved.

This week, we celebrate the power of public education and the incredible things happening every day in Galion City Schools! From innovative classroom experiences to supportive services that nurture the whole child, we’re proud to make a difference in our students’ lives. 💙 Innovative Learning: Our teachers use evidence-based strategies and cutting-edge technology to provide a rigorous education for all students. Decisions are data driven to guide our instructional practice. Support for All: Through counseling, special education, PBIS, ROAR and other programs we provide a supportive, social-emotional, safe and respectful learning environment for all students. Extracurricular Excellence: From athletics to the arts, our students shine on the field, on stage, and in our community. All are welcome to attend our athletic events, our band and choir concerts, as well as our theater productions. Not only do our students excel in their activities, but all our students graduate with a minimum of 60 hours of volunteer service. Community Partnerships: Together with local businesses and organizations, we provide real-world learning opportunities. Our students are able to tour local businesses and participate in career based learning programs both on and off campus. Dedicated Staff: In this year alone teachers and staff have received training for PBIS, Restorative Practices, Science of Reading, Dyslexia, and have collaborated with district administrators to improve teaching and learning strategies. We Believe our students will Achieve their full potential to Succeed in all aspects of their lives. Public education is the heart of our community, and we’re proud to partner with families to empower students to achieve their dreams. See for yourself some of the great things we have to offer. https://bit.ly/GalTigers24 💬 Tell us: What makes you proud of Galion City Schools? Share your stories in the comments!

In continuing to share how we use Restorative Practice at Galion City Schools, today we focus on restorative questions. These are questions designed to help students reflect on their feelings and the impact of their actions on others. Restorative questions encourage emotional awareness and promote constructive dialogue, especially during conflicts or misunderstandings. Some examples are: “How did that situation make you feel?” “How do you think your actions affect others?”

The Galion City School District is, once again, pleased to host the Second Harvest Food Pantry on November 25th. In preparation for the expected increased attendance and demand for turkeys, pre-registration is required. Those who have not pre-registered will be asked to wait until the end of the line. We also kindly ask that attendees refrain from arriving before 3:30 p.m. to reduce traffic during school dismissal. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We look forward to seeing you and hope this helps you and your families enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.

Today, we honor and thank all veterans for their service and sacrifice. In our district, over 135 students have parents/guardians who are currently serving in active duty or are veterans. Additionally, many more students have siblings and extended family members who serve or have served in the military. We are deeply grateful for their dedication and the sacrifices they make for our country. Happy Veterans Day!
